A host of awards line the walls at FisherBullen, a firm known for executing outstanding building work in Norfolk.
From Norwich Cathedral to Binham Priory, from the gates of Felbrigg Hall to the Glasshouse at Hoveton Hall, from luxury houses at Thornham to the Vineries at Holkham, the signature craftsmanship of FisherBullen is quietly evident across the finest architecture in the county – and beyond.
But it’s not only the eye-catching big buildings, National Trust properties and historical homes which enjoy the awards and attention to detail of the FisherBullen team, the craftsman turn their hands to anything from replacing wooden window frames and building staircases to converting barns and meeting exacting briefs on hi-tech new houses or offices.
Those accolades and awards are likely to keep on coming too, with extensive continued training and development. From carpenters and joiners to site managers and office staff, FisherBullen invests in personal and professional development, ensuring its reputation for exceptional quality continues.
The team is immensely proud of craftsmen such as young bricklayer Will Loades who recently won silver at the national Skillbuild competition.
“This has earned Will a place at the UK finals and the chance to represent Britain at the world competition – the Olympics of bricklaying,” says delighted general manager John Turkentine.
“He is among the best in the country. He is a very very impressive young man,” he adds. And FisherBullen is taking on more apprentices this year in joinery, carpentry and decorating, selecting talented people keen to train with such a prestigious, capable firm.
“The quality of the work we do is absolutely outstanding,” says John, who is looking forward to welcoming new apprentices to the firm.
The trainees will have some amazing mentors too, with the Bullen Joinery’s workshop staff combining more than 300 years of experience.
“Our joinery manager Peter Emerson has been with us for 42 years. As he says ‘you dream it, we make it’ and he’s right, we can make anything,” says John.
That might include ash screens for a church, accurately copying a 15th century oak main roof truss as part of the extensive repairs to Tibenham Church, renovating prestigious houses along the north Norfolk coast and creating outstanding extensions for others.
“We do a lot of high profile work that a lot of people will see, and much that is not seen pulicly,” he says
Particularly known for successfully tackling highly technical or difficult projects, from restoring and conserving ancient buildings to working with the latest building innovations and eco-ideas for a new structure, FisherBullen prides itself on completing every job to an extremely high standard.
“We value our customers and we look after them and their properties.” adds John.
As part of the RG Carter construction group, the company can access the management resources and technical skills of a major building group whenever they are needed, yet remain close to its individual customers.
It means it can call on great expertise in everything from ground and air source heat pumps to fitting woodburners, from rebuilding ancient flint walls to replicating Queen Anne wooden shutters, while keeping its personal approach.
“FisherBullen’s heart and soul is in Norfolk,” says John, with expertise it takes across the county and beyond.
