Demolition of former garages to make way for an extension has allowed the owners of a grade II listed building to improve its carbon footprint.
The two-storey extension at The Grange, Stanhoe, houses new garaging, two ensuite bedrooms, a swimming pool & changing facility, plant room and biofuel store. The latter contains a biomass boiler, fuelled by woodchips, which provides a fifth of the homes heating, reducing it dependence on fossil fuels.
Craftsmen from Fisher•Bullen brought traditional building practices into play, constructing the new extension out red brick and flint walls – with the flints laid in random style to replicate original designs on the ??th century grange.
The Norfolk home also has a new conservatory, crafted by the carpentry skills of Fisher•Bullen's sister company Bullen Joinery. It too features flint walls under slate roof.
